Your journey begins early in vibrant Marrakech, where the energy of the medina slowly fades as we head towards the High Atlas Mountains. As we wind our way through the stunning Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters above sea level), you'll notice how the scenery shifts dramatically—from bustling city life to peaceful mountain views.
Along the way, we’ll stop for pictures and tea breaks at scenic viewpoints. Our next big highlight? Ait Ben Haddou – a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars. You've probably seen it in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones! Strolling through its ancient clay alleys feels like stepping back in time.
After exploring this cinematic wonder, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” We’ll visit the famous film studios or the Taourirt Kasbah before moving on. As the sun begins to lower, we drive through winding valleys toward Agdz, a quiet village nestled at the edge of the vast Draa Valley. Here, your peaceful night awaits in a cozy guesthouse surrounded by palm groves and starry skies.
After a traditional Berber breakfast, the road leads us deeper into the Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river and thousands of date palms. We drive past tiny villages and kasbahs, enjoying the ever-changing landscapes.
Next, we arrive at Zagora, the famous town where the sign reads “Timbuktu – 52 days by camel.” From here, we take a detour to Tamgrout, known for its ancient Quranic library and underground pottery workshops. It's fascinating to see artisans shape clay with age-old techniques.
Then, we pass Tagounite and head to the last village before the great Sahara—M’Hamid El Ghizlane. The paved road ends here, and the adventure truly begins.
We swap the car for a 4x4 and drive off-road into the deep desert. Soon, the majestic dunes of Erg Chigaga appear like golden waves on the horizon. Before sunset, it’s time for one of the tour’s highlights: a camel ride across the dunes. The soft light, the silence, and the sway of the camels make this moment magical.
At the Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp, you’re greeted with mint tea and warm smiles. After dinner, gather around the fire as local nomads play traditional music under a sky full of stars. Then, drift to sleep in your luxury tent, wrapped in peace and desert dreams.
Waking up in the Sahara is an experience like no other. After breakfast, we begin our return journey. But don’t worry—the road back is just as stunning.
We’ll travel across wild desert plains, stopping at the vast, dry expanse of Lake Iriqui. During rare rains, this lake fills with water, creating a surreal mirror effect. Most of the time, though, it's a salt-flat that stretches endlessly.
After crossing this dramatic landscape, we arrive at Foum Zguid, a small desert town that feels like an oasis of calm. Next, we head toward Taznakht, the carpet capital of Morocco. This is the perfect place to see how traditional Berber carpets are made—and maybe take one home as a memory of your trip.
Finally, we return to Marrakech, crossing mountains and memories. As the red city comes back into view, you’ll carry with you the warm winds of the desert, the quiet of the dunes, and the joyful rhythms of Saharan nights.
