Your Sahara Desert day trip from Marrakech kicks off early in the morning. After breakfast, your private driver will pick you up from your riad or hotel in a comfortable 4WD vehicle. As we leave the lively streets of Marrakech behind, we start climbing the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass—one of the highest road passes in North Africa.
Our first major stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient ksar (fortified village) has appeared in dozens of famous films and TV shows, including Game of Thrones and Gladiator. You’ll have time to explore the clay alleys, take stunning photos, and soak in the atmosphere of this desert masterpiece.
We then head to Ouarzazate, also known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Depending on time, we can stop at the Atlas Film Studios or the majestic Taourirt Kasbah for a quick visit. From here, we continue through the beautiful Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest palm grove, filled with lush date palms, kasbahs, and desert villages.
By afternoon, we reach Zagora, the last major town before the dunes. From here, the landscape starts to change dramatically. We'll make a cultural stop in Tamgroute, where you can explore the famous green pottery workshops and, if you wish, visit the ancient Quranic Library, which houses rare manuscripts dating back to the 11th century.
Then, we leave the paved road behind and start the real adventure: a thrilling off-road drive across the vast Sahara plains toward Erg Chigaga, Morocco’s wildest and most untouched dunes. After about 2 hours of desert driving, the towering golden dunes of Chigaga appear on the horizon—it's a magical moment!
Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed at our Erg Chigaga Luxury Desert Camp. Enjoy a mint tea while taking in the silence and beauty of the surroundings. Later, go for a short camel ride at sunset, try sandboarding down the dunes, or simply relax and soak in the golden glow of the Sahara.
Dinner is served under the stars, followed by an evening of traditional Berber music and storytelling around the campfire. Then, retreat to your private luxury tent for a peaceful night in the heart of the Sahara.
Wake up early and step outside your luxury tent for a peaceful sunrise walk across the Erg Chigaga dunes. As the soft morning light spreads across the golden sands, it’s a moment of pure stillness you'll never forget. After a traditional Berber breakfast at camp, it’s time to begin the scenic journey back to Marrakech—but the adventure isn’t over yet!
We’ll drive across the remote and wild Iriqui National Park, following an off-road path along the legendary Paris-Dakar rally track. This rugged route takes us through fossil-rich plains, dry lake beds, and arid desert plateaus before reaching the desert outpost of Foum Zguid—the first town after the dunes.
After a short break in Foum Zguid, the road leads us north to Taznakht, a charming Berber town famously known as the capital of Moroccan carpets. Here, you’ll have the chance to visit a women's carpet cooperative, where artisans hand-weave intricate rugs using centuries-old traditions. It's a great cultural stop—and a perfect place to find a truly special keepsake (no pressure to shop, of course!).
