Your 3-day tour from Fes to Merzouga starts bright and early at 8:00 AM. Your friendly local driver/guide will pick you up in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, and from there, the journey begins.
Not long after leaving Fes, you’ll pass through Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco. With its clean streets and European-style houses, it feels like a world away from the bustling medinas.
Next up, the cool cedar forests near Azrou. This is your chance to meet the famous Barbary macaques—they're cheeky, fun to watch, and love posing for photos!
As we move further south, the scenery shifts. You'll drive through charming Berber villages before stopping in Midelt, known for its apples. It’s the perfect place to take a break and enjoy a tasty local lunch.
Afterwards, we continue toward the Toudgha Gorges. The landscapes become more dramatic as you climb deeper into the mountains. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the gorge, where tall cliffs frame a peaceful riverbed. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and spend the night in a cozy guesthouse.
After breakfast, enjoy a short walk along the river or explore the gorge’s rocky paths. Then, we’re back on the road, weaving through valleys and Berber towns on our way to the desert.
As we approach Tinjdad, keep an eye out for strange mounds along the road—these are the entrances to ancient khettaras, underground irrigation tunnels built by hand to bring water to the fields. If you're curious, we can stop to explore one!
Soon, the golden sands of Merzouga come into view. A warm welcome awaits you with a glass of mint tea, followed by an unforgettable camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes. These towering dunes reach up to 250 meters and glow in the evening sun—truly a sight to remember.
As night falls, settle into your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner under the stars, then gather around the fire for Berber drumming and music. With the soft desert wind and the Milky Way overhead, this night will stay with you forever.
Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes—it's absolutely worth it. After breakfast, your camels will take you back to the village, where your driver awaits for the return journey.
On the way back, we stop in Rissani and Erfoud, towns famous for their fossil-filled rocks. If you’re into geology or history, these exhibits are truly fascinating—many fossils are millions of years old and have been transformed into furniture and art.
Next, we drive through the lush Ziz Valley, famous for its vast palm groves and sweet dates. If you visit in November, you might even catch the date festival.
After lunch in Midelt, we continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi-n-Talremt pass. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive back in Fes, tired but full of unforgettable memories. Your driver will take you to your riad, marking the end of this amazing 3-day tour from Fes to Merzouga.
