Day 1: Marrakech → Ouarzazate → Zagora

Your adventure begins early in Marrakech, where you’ll set off toward the majestic Atlas Mountains. As the road climbs to the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, breathtaking panoramas unfold at every turn. Along the way, stop to stretch, sip mint tea, and capture the high-altitude beauty of Morocco’s heartland.

Next, you’ll reach Ouarzazate — often called the “Gateway to the Desert.” After visiting the historic Taourirt Kasbah, continue through the lush Draa Valley, a ribbon of life winding through the desert. Date palms sway gently as traditional Berber villages dot the horizon. By sunset, you’ll arrive in Zagora, where the soft desert light paints everything gold.

After breakfast, your journey continues deeper into the desert. You’ll cross the rugged Anti-Atlas Mountains, passing through small oases and volcanic landscapes that seem untouched by time. Around midday, enjoy a relaxed lunch in Alnif before the road leads you toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Upon arrival, swap your vehicle for camels and gently sway into the dunes as the sun melts into shades of crimson and gold. The sunset over Erg Chebbi is a memory you’ll never forget. Later, a warm dinner awaits at your desert camp. Under the wide-open sky, the stars shine like nowhere else on Earth. The rhythm of Berber drums will carry you into the night.

Wake up to a sunrise that bathes the dunes in amber light — a peaceful start before breakfast at camp. Soon after, the road takes you along the legendary Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, where ancient fortresses guard the palm groves below.

In Tinghir, enjoy a gentle walk through the Todgha Oasis and along the river that carves the famous Todgha Gorges. Towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides — a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike. After lunch, continue through the Dades Valley, where twisting roads and rosy cliffs make every view postcard-worthy.

After breakfast, continue your journey west toward Kalaat M’gouna, the Valley of Roses. Depending on the season, you might catch the air filled with the sweet scent of rose petals. Stop at a local cooperative to see how traditional rose water and perfumes are made.

Next, travel through Skoura Oasis and onward to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars. Wander its labyrinthine alleys where films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones were shot. After lunch, make your way back across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, carrying home memories of starlit nights and desert dreams.
